The objectives of the course are that upon completion successful delegates will be able to:
- Understand how and why the ISM Code is applied, other criteria and standards against which an audit could be performed.
- Identify the requirements of the ISM Code against which an audit is to be performed.
- Explain the similarities between the ISM Code and the ISO 9000 series and identify any areas where one complements the other.
- Describe the roles and responsibilities of Auditors and Lead Auditors.
- Explain the rationale supporting the implementation of the ISM Code and state the implementation timescales.
- Plan and prepare an audit to the requirements of the ISM Code with respect to the management of an organization and the operation of a ship.
- Distinguish between the process for the issue of a Document of Compliance (DOC) and the process for the issue of a Safety Management Certificate (SMC).
