Universal Shipping Bureau (USB) is an independent International Classification Society. We provide Classification, Certification, Verification, Training & Advisory Services.

 

U.S.B. is a a non-Governmental Technical Society, established at the early 2004, in Panama.

Staffed with a world wide network of experienced surveyors and technical professionals on the marine field, U.S.B. can render any kind of technical services to ship owners / managers committed to the higher standards of safety, integrity, service and quality, made possible by our continued development and application of technology.

The services provided by U.S.B. are implemented using the latest office integration techniques, taking full advantage of the benefits and services provided by a computerized environment, all of them integrated in an in-office intranet network, while all users have direct access to internet for easy and reliable retrieval of information through specialized data bases.  The extensive use of state of the art technology enables our associates to be “in touch” at any time with our premises in order to access our archives and technical library, thus saving valuable time while performing their assignments.

Our software library is continuously up-dated with the latest technical releases, indispensable for the accurate completion of our technical work, as well as with the theoretical ones, so that we can thoroughly follow up the latest I.M.O. information, circulars and regulations on a daily basis.  We also count with all the “basic” I.M.O. hard copy technical publications, while a full set of all time conventions is available in electronic form.

USB class establishes and administers Rules and Guidelines for the classification of ships, and other floating marine structures covering their design, construction, and operational maintenance for the purpose of determining the structural and mechanical fitness for their intended purpose.
As an independent organization, USB class acts as a self-regulating agency to the international marine industry. Our mission is to continuously ensure safety of life and property at sea, prevention of pollution in the marine environment through pertinent set of services. The public interest in regulating shipowners activities and assisting government agencies in the same sector is always performed with impartiality and objectivity. This is taken shape either through surveys, audits, plan’s appraisals or through broader initiatives, such as advisory on various matters.
Through the International Maritime Organization, the governments of the world’s maritime nations have established various international maritime conventions containing regulations for protecting life, property and the environment. USB class has been authorized by some flag administrations to act on their behalf in conducting statutory surveys and issuing the necessary statutory certificates.
